Protest in Bellevue against Rep. Adam Smith

Workers Strike Back (apparently associated with Socialists in Seattle) is hosting a protest in Bellevue near the home of Rep. Adam Smith:

SEATTLE — PROTEST WARMONGERING DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSMAN ADAM SMITH

Free Mahmoud Khalil! End the Genocide in Gaza!

Washington Democrat Adam Smith has long been a darling of weapons manufacturers and the rich. Under his leadership, the Armed Services Committee authorized more than 60 consecutive military spending bills on behalf of U.S. imperialism, spending billions of dollars to back the slaughter of the Palestinian people and the bloody inter-imperialist proxy war in Ukraine. He smeared campus antiwar protesters as “leftwing fascists.” Smith has also refused to speak out against political retaliation by the right-wing Modi regime against Indian immigrants and political activists, including former Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant.

Join us at Lewis Creek Park in Bellevue, WA, Saturday 3/22, to demand an end to the genocide, an end to the occupation, and an end to U.S. military aid to Israel:

I also received a long email about the protest. The email said:

The Israeli state has resumed its genocidal attacks on Gaza, acting on their weeks-long threats that they will end the temporary ceasefire, slaughtering over 400 Palestinians in just a few hours — mostly women, children, and the elderly.

The genocide in Gaza will only be stopped by building a far more powerful antiwar movement that escalates internationally, with massive protests, civil disobedience, and mass strike actions by workers and the labor movement.

This Saturday, March 22nd, join Workers Strike Back and other antiwar organizations in a National Day of Action against the genocide, and against the repression of antiwar protests. We are organizing a protest in the Seattle area and one in Kansas City, Missouri.

Workers Strike Back stands in solidarity with Mahmoud Khalil, the Columbia University graduate student and permanent resident of the U.S., who was arrested in his home and is being detained with threat of deportation. … Following Khalil’s arrest, a measly 14 House Democrats released a letter calling for his release.

This is the March 11 letter that they must be referring to:  https://x.com/RepRashida/status/1899474793553875255 . It is discussed in this article in The Nation.

But close to 100 House members — including Rep. Smith — signed this March 14 letter criticizing the arrest of Mr. Khalil.

The email goes on:

We know the Trump administration plans to carry out many more such attacks, with the Democratic Party presenting virtually no opposition. ….

Adam Smith has never met a war he did not like.

Smith has long been a darling of weapons manufacturers and the wealthy who profit from imperialist war. The genocidal, Zionist organization AIPAC was his top campaign contributor last year. Under his leadership, the Armed Services Committee authorized more than 60 consecutive military spending bills on behalf of U.S. imperialism, spending billions of dollars to back the slaughter of the Palestinian people and the bloody inter-imperialist proxy war in Ukraine.

Smith has branded antiwar protestors as “leftwing fascists.” This is an odious attempt to silence opposition to the genocide in Gaza, fueled by Israel’s right-wing government.

Adam Smith is the political target of our March 22nd protest against the genocide in the Seattle area. It’s important that we bring maximum pressure to bear against the warmongers in the US Congress who have backed one of the most horrific genocides of this century.

I myself do not plan to attend the protest, though I do plan to watch the live-stream.

I will update this article with more information later.
